Utah Jazz to Waive Center Omer Yurtseven

The Utah Jazz are planning to release center Omer Yurtseven, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Yurtseven, who played one season with Utah following two years with the Heat, had a contract worth $2.66 million that was not guaranteed.

He appeared in 48 games this past season, starting 12 times, and averaged 4.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game.

The Jazz recently drafted Kyle Filipowski in the second round, making Yurtseven less essential to their roster. However, there’s a possibility they could bring him back on a more financially manageable contract.

Yurtseven became a free agent last summer when the Heat decided not to extend him a qualifying offer. He had a promising rookie season but was sidelined for most of the 2022/23 season due to ankle surgery.

With many centers available in free agency, it’s likely Yurtseven might explore opportunities overseas.
