Atlanta Hawks’ star Trae Young, who underwent an MRI on his left hand following an injury in Friday’s match against Toronto, has been diagnosed with a tear of the radial collateral ligament (RCL) in the fifth finger of that hand, the team announced today.
According to the Hawks, Young is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair the RCL and will undergo reevaluation in four weeks.
Young, 25, leads the team with an average of 26.4 points and 10.8 assists in 51 games (all of which he started) this season. He was limited to 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field in Atlanta’s 123-121 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday.
With Young expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks, it’s probable that Bogdan Bogdanovic will step into the starting lineup, with Dejounte Murray taking over the point guard position.
A three-time All-Star, Young has contributed 25.6 points and 9.5 assists in 404 career games (all of which he started) since being selected as the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.
