The Toronto Raptors are in the final stages of completing a trade deal that will send OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks. In return, they’ll receive a package featuring RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a 2024 second-round pick, originally belonging to the Pistons, reports Adrian Wajnarowski of ESPN.
This pick is expected to be at the top of the second round. Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn are also part of the trade to New York, alongside Anunoby.
The Knicks have been actively pursuing Anunoby for quite some time, reportedly offering multiple first-rounders at the previous season’s deadline.
This move gives them an early opportunity to secure him before his potential 2024 free agency. Anunoby is likely to decline his $19.9MM player option for the next season to seek a more substantial contract.
Despite not receiving a first-round pick, the Raptors seem focused on retooling rather than a complete rebuild. This aligns with recent reports indicating their reluctance for a reset. The fate of Pascal Siakam, also mentioned in trade rumors, remains uncertain.
On the Knicks’ side, acquiring Anunoby adds a coveted two-way player to their roster. The departure of Barrett and Quickley is expected to open up opportunities for other players like Donte DiVincenzo and Quentin Grimes to take on more significant roles alongside Jalen Brunson.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing trade.
