The newly appointed head coach of the Phoenix Suns, Mike Budenholzer, is set to make significant changes to the coaching staff inherited from Frank Vogel.
According to reports from Chris Haynes of TNT Sports and Bleacher Report, none of the assistant coaches under Vogel will be retained for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Budenholzer’s arrival marks a swift overhaul of the coaching lineup.
Under Vogel, Kevin Young served as the associate head coach, while David Fizdale, Quinton Crawford, Miles Simon, Greg St. Jean, John Lucas III, Dru Anthrop, and Jon Pastorek were assistant coaches. Fizdale is said to be offered a role within the front office, though it’s uncertain if he’ll accept.
Budenholzer, a coach who has earned the Coach of the Year title twice, had been away from the league since his departure from the Bucks after a disappointing playoff exit in the first round last season.
Now, he’s stepping into another demanding position, as immediate success will be expected from a talented roster centered around Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.
Moving to Phoenix seems like a good fit for Budenholzer, especially considering his past success without relying heavily on a traditional point guard.
