The Phoenix Suns are finalizing a deal to sign forward Ish Wainright on a two-way contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Additionally, they’re parting ways with Theo Maledon, as reported by Mike Scotto of HoopsHype.
Wainright, aged 29, previously donned the Suns jersey, featuring in 105 regular-season games and 13 playoff appearances between 2021 and 2023.
However, due to roster constraints, his non-guaranteed minimum-salary contract was waived before the start of the 2023/24 season, leading him to be picked up by the Trail Blazers off waivers.
Prior to his stint with Portland, there were rumblings about Phoenix’s interest in reuniting with Wainright, and now, that interest has culminated in a contract agreement.
Despite his limited role with the Blazers, mainly attributed to injuries, Wainright’s defensive skills overshadow his offensive output.
Throughout his three-year career span, he has averaged 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, with a 33.1% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc in 112 regular-season outings (averaging 11.8 minutes per game).
Currently, the Suns have filled all three spots allowed for two-way contracts, but recent reportsindicate that Saben Lee might soon transition to a standard deal.
