Spurs Finalize Their Roster with RaiQuan Gray’s Signing

The San Antonio Spurs have completed their offseason roster by securing the services of free agent forward/center RaiQuan Gray on a training camp contract, as per RealGM’s transaction log.

Gray, the 59th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft from Florida State, embarked on his professional journey in the G League with the Long Island Nets during his rookie season.

In the fall of 2022, he inked a training camp contract with the Brooklyn Nets but failed to secure a spot on the regular season roster and was released before opening night.

Consequently, he spent a second season with the Long Island Nets before earning a two-way deal during the final week of the 2022/23 season in April.

While Gray’s initial G League season didn’t set the world alight, he made significant strides in the 2022/23 season, becoming a regular starter.

He averaged an impressive 15.4 points per game, along with 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists, boasting a shooting line of .578/.382/.629 in 18 games, with an average playing time of 30.6 minutes per game.

Despite this, he was waived by the Brooklyn Nets during the summer, thereby making him an unrestricted free agent.

In a recent NBAGL trade, the Austin Spurs, San Antonio’s G League affiliate, acquired Gray’s returning rights from Long Island.

This strategic move, coupled with Gray’s newly secured training camp contract, suggests that the San Antonio Spurs are likely to release the big man before the regular season commences, with plans for him to join the Austin Spurs.

Assuming Gray’s new contract incorporates Exhibit 10 language, he stands to earn a bonus of up to $75,000 if he spends a minimum of 60 days with the San Antonio Spurs’ G League team, offering an added incentive for his development and contribution to the franchise.
