KJ Martin is set to rejoin the Sixers next season with a two-year, $16 million contract, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Before free agency started, the Sixers gave up the rights to most of their free agents, but they kept KJ Martin’s cap hold on their books.
Despite his modest stats with the 76ers last season — averaging just 3.7 points per game in 58 appearances — his re-signing on a flexible contract is strategic for the Sixers, maintaining their trade options open.
Martin joined the Sixers in the trade that sent James Harden to the Clippers early in the 2023/24 season. Although his playing time was limited with both the Sixers and the Clippers, he showed promise earlier in his career with the Rockets.
Drafted 52nd overall by Houston in 2020, he averaged 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds over 206 games in his first three seasons.
At 23 years old, Martin remains a valuable deep reserve at the forward position for the Sixers and could potentially be traded when eligible in January.
Having played for the Rockets, Clippers, and Sixers, Martin has career averages of 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 266 games.
