NBA Communications announced on Monday evening that Victor Wembanyama, the big man for the San Antonio Spurs, has been named the league’s Rookie of the Year.
Wemby lived up to expectations as the top pick of the draft, averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, a league-leading 3.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 71 games.
Chet Holmgren, who helped the OKC Thunder secure the top seed in the Western Conference, came in second in the voting. Brandon Miller of the Hornets finished a distant third.
Holmgren, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft who missed the previous season due to a foot injury, played in all 82 games, averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.3 blocks. Miller, drafted second in the previous year’s draft, averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 74 games.
