The San Antonio Spurs are undergoing two roster changes: they’re signing free agent forward RaiQuan Gray to a two-way contract, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Mamadi Diakite will be waived to make room for Gray on the roster.
Gray, selected as the 59th pick in the 2021 draft from Florida State, had a brief stint with the Brooklyn Nets last season, signing a two-way deal.
He showcased his skills in his lone NBA appearance, recording 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and one block. This marks his second season in the league.
After joining the Spurs for training camp in the fall, Gray was waived before the start of the 2023/24 season.
He has been playing for the team’s G League affiliate in Austin, where he’s been averaging 18.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game in 19 regular season appearances, with an average playing time of 29.4 minutes.
Diakite, aged 27, is in his fourth NBA season, with prior stints with the Bucks, Thunder, and Cavaliers. The Guinea native made three brief appearances for the Spurs this season before being waived.
