According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, OG Anunoby isn’t satisfied with the Knicks’ current contract offer to keep him in New York.
The New York Knicks acquired OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors in December, and there has been a widespread expectation that he would re-sign with the team rather than exploring free agency.
“Let’s keep an eye on that,” said Brian Windhorst on Get Up on Monday morning regarding Anunoby’s eligibility to negotiate a new deal with the Knicks. “Most people believe Anunoby will stay with New York, but there have been indications he may want to test the market, because he’s not thrilled with what the Knicks are offering.”
“I heard that internally as well,” replied Jay Williams.
Anunoby played 23 games for the New York Knicks this season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. He also contributed 1.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per game, shooting 48.8% from the field, 39.4% from three-point range, and 79.1% from the free-throw line.
The Knicks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs in seven games. New York boasted a 20-3 record with Anunoby in the lineup during the regular season.
Anunoby holds career averages of 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks with the Raptors and Knicks, establishing himself as one of the top two-way players in the NBA.
If Anunoby opts for free agency, teams like the OKC Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers are anticipated to pursue him.
