Report: Mavs May Cut A.J Lawson to Make Room for Markieff Morris’ Return

The Dallas Mavericks are determined to re-sign forward Markieff Morris, even after completing their 15-man roster with the addition of Spencer Dinwiddie, according to Marc Stein of SteinLine.

Stein notes that A.J. Lawson, a high-flying wing, is the most at risk among the 15 players with standard contracts because his 2024/25 salary is non-guaranteed.

Morris played in 26 regular-season games and one playoff game for Dallas last season, mostly in a secondary role, averaging 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting 33.8 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range.

Throughout his career, which began in the 2011-12 season, Morris has played for the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets, and Mavericks.

He is expected to bring veteran leadership and be a familiar presence on a team with realistic championship aspirations, led by big 3 Luka Dončić, Kyrie Irving and potentially Klay Thompson.
