The Red Sox have traded infielder Zack Short to the Braves in return for cash, as revealed by statements from both teams. Boston had recently let go of Short from their roster. Atlanta made room for him by sending Luis Guillorme to the Angels.
Short started the 2024 season with the Mets, playing in 10 games but only managing to hit 1-for-9. Boston acquired him from the Mets on May 1 in exchange for cash. Despite appearing in two games for the Red Sox, Short struggled at the plate, going 0-for-7.
He’s known as a versatile player with experience in the middle infield and outfield, batting right-handed and having no remaining options. Throughout his career, Short has played in 191 major league games, maintaining a batting line of .169/.262/.299 with a 55 wRC+ in 469 plate appearances.
Initially, it seemed Guillorme’s departure might signal David Fletcher’s return to the Braves’ active roster. However, now it appears Atlanta is considering Short as an option, at least for the time being. The Braves will kick off a three-game series in New York starting on Friday.
