Raptors to Sign DJ Carton to a 10-day Contract

The Toronto Raptors are set to sign guard D.J. Carton to a 10-day contract to fill one of their empty roster spots, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Earlier this week, two spots opened up on Toronto’s regular 15-player roster when the 10-day contracts for Justise Winslow and Mouhamadou Gueye ended.

Although the Raptors had two weeks to fill at least one of those spots, they seem to be moving quickly to meet the NBA’s roster requirements.

Carton has been playing in the G League as a professional since he didn’t get drafted from Marquette in 2021. He played one season with the Greensboro Swarm and the past two seasons with the Iowa Wolves, which is Minnesota’s G League team.

This season, Carton has been averaging 18.6 points, 5.7 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals in 35.4 minutes per game over 29 games for Iowa.

His contract with Toronto will cover the team’s first five games after the All-Star break and he’ll earn $64,343 for his time with the Raptors. Even after signing Carton, the Raptors will still have one open roster spot.
