Pistons Interested in Trading For Mavs Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Detroit Pistons could be a new home for Tim Hardaway Jr., according to Marc Stein of the SteinLine. The Dallas Mavericks are looking to move Hardaway this offseason to focus on re-signing Derrick Jones Jr.

Stein added that Quentin Grimes is a potential trade piece to Dallas, which would send Hardaway Jr. to Detroit.

In Detroit, under Trajan Langdon’s leadership, the Pistons are aiming to gather more assets. Hardaway would fill a role in their lineup as a wing who can spread the floor, addressing their need as they ranked 26th in three-point shooting last season.

Back in 2021, the Mavericks re-signed Hardaway to a four-year, $72 million deal after a strong playoff performance. He’s now entering the final year of that contract, worth $16.2 million, which accounts for 11.5 percent of the 2024-25 salary cap.

Last season, Hardaway had a solid run with the Mavericks, who made it to the NBA Finals but lost to the Boston Celtics. Across 79 games, he averaged 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, shooting 40.2% from the field, 35.3% from three-point range, and 85.2% from the free-throw line.
