Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee is facing a long and uncertain recovery after undergoing a successful surgery to repair his right meniscus as the teams’ PR reports.
“Phoenix Suns guard Damion Lee today underwent a successful surgery to repair his right meniscus. The procedure was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Updates on Lee’s return to the court will be provided as appropriate.”
The injury occurred while he was engaged in an on-court training session two weeks ago. Even though no specific timeframe has been provided for his return, it is foreseeable that he will remain sidelined for an extended period.
The Suns will be missing one of their top three-point marksmen for an unspecified duration, given that Lee, who had limited playing time, boasted an impressive 44.5% accuracy from beyond the arc in the previous season.
He initially joined the team as a free agent last offseason, right after securing an NBA Finals victory with the Golden State Warriors. This summer, he was reacquired, along with forward Josh Okogie.
Considering the substantial changes in the Suns’ roster during this offseason, it had remained unclear whether Lee would secure a consistent spot in the team’s rotation.
However, his absence could open up opportunities for Grayson Allen and Eric Gordon to contribute on the wing.
Phoenix will play against the Portland Trail Blazers tomorrow for their third preseason match. Notably, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker featured in the team’s preseason opener in Detroit but were absent from Tuesday night’s home debut against Denver.
