Philadelphia 76ers’ Kelly Oubre Under Investigation After Car Accident

Philadelphia 76ers’ Kelly Oubre Jr. was in a car crash that sparked an internal probe by the Philadelphia Police Department, as per TMZ. The incident, happening on Monday night, involved Oubre’s Lamborghini and another vehicle.

Reports indicate Oubre’s car ran a red light, leading to the collision. Both cars had to be towed away. Despite the apparent violation, Oubre wasn’t ticketed or tested for alcohol or drugs at the scene, raising speculation of preferential treatment due to his status.  The police’s Internal Affairs Division is now investigating to address these concerns.

Oubre played in Game 3 against the New York Knicks post-accident and hinted at hiring a driver following the crash, saying he’s considering changes.

“Everything is good,” Oubre told reporters “I’m OK. The people that were involved are OK. I need to probably get a driver or something and just stay off the roads, (not) be behind the wheel. But everything is good. I still was able to do my job, support my family, and things are good.”

Despite the 76ers winning Game 3, they’re still down 2-1 in the series and need a win in Game 4 to level it. Oubre had a decent performance in Game 3, scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds, and dishing three assists in 38 minutes.

Joel Embiid, despite health issues, stole the show with 50 points. The investigation’s outcome could affect Oubre’s availability and the Sixers’ playoff prospects. It’ll be intriguing to see if there are updates on this story or if it fades away.
