The Pelicans have announced the release of Landers Nolley II to make room for the signing of free agent guard Izaiah Brockington.
Typically, NBA teams specify when they’ve inked players to two-way contracts, so it’s probable that Brockington has signed an Exhibit 10 deal.
Under this arrangement, if he’s let go before the season commences, he could be entitled to a bonus of up to $75,000 if he spends at least 60 days with the Birmingham Squadron, which is the G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans.
It’s worth noting that Exhibit 10 contracts can also be transformed into two-way deals.
Brockington had a challenging start to his rookie season in 2022/23 due to a torn ACL suffered during a pre-draft workout with the Pelicans last year.
Despite going undrafted, he initially signed a two-way deal with New Orleans in September, only to be waived a few weeks later.
The 24-year-old player had a collegiate journey that spanned four seasons with three different teams. He began at St. Bonaventure, spent two seasons at Penn State, and concluded his college career at Iowa State.
In the 2021/22 season with the Cyclones, Brockington excelled, leading the team with an average of 16.9 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game.
Brockington made brief appearances for the Birmingham Squadron in March and also participated with the Pelicans during the Summer League in Las Vegas.
Landers Nolley, who went undrafted from Cincinnati in June, had initially signed a non-guaranteed training camp contract. He’s likely on his way to Birmingham to begin his first professional season.
The Pelicans’ roster currently stands at 21 players under contract, which is the maximum allowed during the preseason. They still have one available two-way slot.
