Pacers, Magic Considered Viable Suitors for Clippers’ Paul George in Free Agency

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic are likely to make strong bids for Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers during free agency.

As both conference finals progress, the Pacers are already planning ahead to amend their consecutive road losses in the ECF against the Boston Celtics. Although the team is focused on reaching the NBA Finals for just the second time, you can be sure the front office is strategizing for the offseason.

The Orlando Magic, having been eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opening round of the playoffs, have a head start in summer planning. This season exceeded expectations for both the Magic and the Pacers, raising hopes for the 2024-25 season.

Both teams are keen to improve their rosters, with the Magic in particular having significant cap space to utilize in the open market. Fischer reported that many NBA insiders see the Magic as a viable suitor for George in free agency.

There have also been rumors that the Pacers might reunite with the nine-time All-Star, though these speculations emerged before the team acquired Pascal Siakam in a major trade. While Siakam is expected to re-sign, George could be a backup plan if negotiations with Siakam stall.

Recently, the Philadelphia 76ers, who have the second most cap space this summer, have been viewed as strong contenders for George. Additionally, reports suggest the Clippers are confident the 34-year-old will re-sign with them.

During the 2023-24 season, Paul George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals per game, and shot 41% from three-point range.
