Orlando Magic, Cory Joseph Agree to Two Year Contract

The Orlando Magic and free agent guard Cory Joseph have agreed to a two-year contract, according to Michael A. Scotto of HoopsHype.

Joseph, a first-round pick in 2011, has played 13 NBA seasons with the Spurs, Raptors, Pacers, Kings, Pistons, and Warriors. Turning 33 next month, he averaged just 11.4 minutes in 26 games for Golden State last season before being traded to the Pacers in February. Indiana waived him soon after.

Despite a tough 2023/24 season, Joseph has a respectable career as a backup point guard, averaging 6.9 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game over 816 regular season games, with shooting splits of .441/.349/.786.

While the exact details of Joseph’s new deal aren’t public, it’s likely a veteran’s minimum. It’s uncertain if the first year is fully guaranteed, but the second year probably isn’t, as Orlando often includes team options in their contracts.

With 14 guaranteed contracts for 2024/25, Joseph is expected to fill the 15th spot on Orlando’s roster. If he makes the team, he’ll add depth and experience to a young backcourt featuring Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, and Anthony Black.

Meanwhile, it appears former No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz is no longer in the Magic’s plans and is now an unrestricted free agent. Joseph, represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, brings a wealth of experience to the Magic team.
