OKC Thunder to Sign Mike Muscala

Big man Mike Muscala intends to join the Oklahoma City Thunder for the remainder of the season after clearing waivers.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Muscala, who reached a buyout agreement with Detroit, will provide additional depth to the Thunder for their playoff push upon his return.

Muscala’s return to the Oklahoma City Thunder marks a reunion, as he previously signed with them from 2019 to 2023.

Initially joining as a free agent in 2019, he later re-signed in 2021 and 2022, but was traded to Boston last season. During his time with the Thunder, he played 168 games, averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per contest.

Known for his ability to shoot three-pointers, he has a career average of 37.6% from beyond the arc, improving to 39.2% while with OKC. After stints with the Celtics and the Wizards, Muscala began this season with the Detroit Pistons.

Although his overall three-point percentage this season is 31.8%, he showed improvement, hitting 38.2% during his time with the Pistons.

The Thunder have space on their roster for Muscala without needing to let go of any players. This marks their second move to strengthen their frontcourt, following the addition of Bismack Biyombo last month.

Biyombo and Muscala will add depth and offer different abilities to a frontcourt led by Rookie of the Year contender Chet Holmgren.
