As free agency approaches, the New York Knicks may face the possibility of losing Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are in need of a center after their second-round playoff exit to the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Stefan Bondy of New York Post Sports, the Thunder are reportedly willing to offer Hartenstein a short-term contract with a lucrative salary.
Bondy writes, “The Thunder is viewed by NBA sources as the top threat to pry Hartenstein away from the Knicks in free agency… One league source speculated the Thunder would offer a short-term deal (such as two years) with a high salary, providing both sides with long-term flexibility.”
This presents a significant decision for the Knicks regarding Hartenstein. While he played a vital role in their success this season, he is expected to seek a substantial contract in free agency.
Furthermore, any potential blockbuster trades the Knicks pursue during the offseason could also influence their decision due to salary cap constraints.
For the Thunder, acquiring Hartenstein would bolster their lineup, especially alongside Chet Holmgren.
As a versatile center capable of impacting both ends of the court, Hartenstein could be a valuable asset in propelling the Thunder to greater success in the competitive Western Conference.
