The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially confirmed the extension of their rookie scale team options for the 2024/25 season on five players, according to an announcement made by the team today.
These options break down as follows:
– Chet Holmgren (in his third year, with an option valued at $10,880,640)
– Josh Giddey (in his fourth year, with an option valued at $8,352,367)
– Ousmane Dieng (in his third year, with an option valued at $5,027,040)
– Tre Mann (in his fourth year, with an option valued at $4,908,373)
– Jalen Williams (in his third year, with an option valued at $4,775,760)
The decisions to pick up these options were relatively straightforward. Holmgren, Giddey, and Williams are considered vital pieces for the team’s long-term future.
Although Dieng had a limited role during his rookie season, it’s worth noting he was a high draft pick at 11th overall in the 2022 draft.
Among these options, the most noteworthy one is for Tre Mann. The 22-year-old guard showed promise in his rookie season, averaging 10.4 points per game in 2021/22.
Given the Thunder’s tight roster situation this offseason, there were speculations that Mann might be on the chopping block, but today’s decision signals the team’s intent to retain him.
This move places some focus on Jack White, whose salary for 2023/24 has a partial guarantee of $600,000 and might be the likeliest candidate for release, although the team could explore other options.
Previously, the Thunder traded Victor Oladipo and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl to reduce their roster from 18 players on standard contracts to 16.
With the extension of these options, both Giddey and Mann will become eligible for rookie scale extensions next July.
Additionally, the Thunder will need to decide whether to exercise fourth-year options on Holmgren, Dieng, and Williams by the end of next October 31.
