Miami Heat Waive Peterson and Williams

Miami Heat have officially waive forward Drew Peterson and guard Alondes Williams, according to an announcement made by the team.

Peterson, an undrafted player from USC in the most recent draft, had an impressive college career, earning All-Pac-12 honors twice during his time with the Trojans.

In the 2022/23 season, the 6’8″ super-senior showcased his skills in 33 games, averaging 13.9 points per game, along with 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.8 blocks.

Williams, who also went undrafted in 2022, hails from Wake Forest and primarily played in the G League with the Long Island Nets last season.

He appeared in 24 G League games, including 12 starts, and had solid stats, averaging 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 27.6 minutes per game. He briefly joined the Brooklyn Nets for one game in December.

Both Peterson and Williams, who participated in a single preseason game with the Heat, were operating under Exhibit 10 contracts.

While they won’t be part of Miami’s regular season roster, they are expected to join the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s NBA G League affiliate, as reported by Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.

Provided that they spend at least 60 days with the Skyforce, they will receive Exhibit 10 bonuses amounting to $75,000 each.

Notably, the Heat still have three players under Exhibit 10 contracts: Cole Swider, Justin Champagnie, and Cheick Diallo. Since Miami currently has only 13 players on standard contracts.

Miami’s roster now stands at 19 players.
