The Miami Heat are making a couple of roster changes, signing G League Finals MVP and free agent guard Josh Christopher to a two-way contract. To make room for Christopher, the Heat have waived Zyon Pullin.
Christopher, a former first-round pick (24th overall in 2021), started his NBA career with the Houston Rockets before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies last summer.
The Grizzlies eventually waived him in late September, effectively declining his fourth-year team option for the 2024-25 season.
After being waived by Memphis, Christopher joined the Utah Jazz on a two-way deal but was released in January. He didn’t appear in any NBA games last season and split his time between the Salt Lake City Stars (Utah’s G League affiliate) and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami’s affiliate).
The 22-year-old Christopher earned his new contract with the Heat after a standout performance in the Las Vegas Summer League. The Heat won the championship in dramatic fashion, with an overtime victory over Memphis, where Christopher was named the MVP of the title game.
He scored a team-high 24 points, including six three-pointers, and added four rebounds, one assist, three steals, and two blocks.
Over six games in Vegas, he averaged 19.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 54.1% from the field, 52.5% from three-point range, and 100% from the free-throw line.
As for Pullin, the 23-year-old point guard showed potential during Summer League but didn’t get much playing time (11.9 minutes per game). The former UC Riverside and Florida star will become an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers in a few days.
With Christopher’s signing, the Heat have filled their two-way contract spots, adding him alongside Dru Smith and Keshad Johnson.
