Dallas Mavericks’ Maxi Kleber suffered a significant injury to his right shoulder, diagnosed as a full dislocation of the AC joint, reports’ Shams Charania of The Athletic. This unfortunate setback will keep Kleber out for an extended period, possibly sidelining him for the entire postseason, Shams noted.
The injury occurred during the second quarter when Kleber attempted a layup and was fouled by Clippers wing Amir Coffey. Despite managing to make one of his free throws, Kleber left the game immediately and did not return.
Coach Jason Kidd expressed uncertainty about the extent of Kleber’s absence and how long he might be out, opting to adopt a “next man up” approach in response.
With Kleber’s absence potentially impacting the Mavericks’ second-round series against Oklahoma City, it presents a significant challenge for Dallas.
Kleber played a crucial role as a reserve in the first round, contributing 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in 19.3 minutes off the bench. Known for his defensive prowess, he also showcased his shooting ability by converting 10-of-18 three-point attempts (55.6%) against the Clippers.
In Kleber’s absence, players such as Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford, and P.J. Washington could see increased playing time, while Dwight Powell, who saw limited action in the first round, may move up in the depth chart.
