Latest on Zion Williamson’s Injury Ahead of Final Play-In Game vs Kings

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Zion Williamson is believed to have sustained a left hamstring injury.

During the fourth quarter of the Pelicans’ play-in game against the Lakers on Tuesday, Williamson left the court due to a “left leg soreness.”

He is set to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. Despite the scheduled MRI, Williamson did not appear to be limping as he exited the arena on Tuesday, as noted by Will Guillory of The Athletic.

The Pelicans suffered a 110-106 loss to the Lakers and now must win on Friday to secure the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

Williamson managed to make a crucial basket to tie the game with 3:19 remaining by driving into the lane. However, he immediately experienced pain in his leg after scoring and had to leave the game.

After briefly sitting on the bench, he slammed a towel onto the floor before heading to the locker room.

Up until his injury, Williamson had arguably played one of the best games of his career, scoring 40 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and recording five assists in 36 minutes of play.

Despite his outstanding performance, injuries have been a recurring issue throughout Williamson’s career.

This season, he appeared in a career-high 70 games, averaging 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

His availability for the final play-in game against the Sacramento Kings, which will determine a playoff spot, hinges on the results of the MRI.
