Kyle Lowry, Sixers Agree to One Year Deal

Free agent Kyle Lowry, a former six-time All-Star point guard, is signing a one-year contract to return to his hometown team, the Philadelphia 76ers, according Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The details of the deal haven’t been revealed yet. At 38 years old, Lowry will be entering his 19th NBA season in 2024/25.

The 6’0″ Villanova alum was considering offers from several playoff contenders as he aims to win his second championship. He joined the Sixers last year after being bought out by the Charlotte Hornets following a trade from the Miami Heat.

Lowry became a crucial player for the Sixers, starting in 20 of the 23 regular-season games he played and all six playoff games against the New York Knicks. His leadership, shooting, and overall winning mentality provided a significant boost to the team, particularly to All-Stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Re-signing Lowry is part of a successful offseason for Daryl Morey and the Sixers. Lowry will join a host of new additions, including nine-time All-Star Paul George, standout wing Caleb Martin, big man Andre Drummond, and veteran scorer Eric Gordon.
