Boston Celtics centre Kristaps Porzingis has been ruled out for Game 3 vs the Dallas Mavericks on the road. Porzingis suffered a posterior dislocation in his left leg during Game 2, the team announced.
The injury happened late in the third quarter of Sunday’s game while he was fighting for a rebound on a free throw. The team described the injury as “rare” and clarified that it’s unrelated to the right calf strain that sidelined him for over a month.
Joe Mazzulla told reporters that Porzingis remains day-to-day after being ruled out for Game 3, with the medical staff deciding not to risk his participation today.
Mazzulla further explained that the medical team observed Porzingis during some tests and determined he wasn’t fit to play. He had mentioned yesterday that this decision would be made by the medical team, not Porzingis.
Porzingis’s next chance to play will be in Game 4.
