Free agent forward/center Isaiah Roby has re-signed with the New York Knicks on an Exhibit 10 contract after clearing waivers last Friday, as announced by the team today.
Roby inked a multiyear agreement with New York on the final day of the 2022/23 regular season.
During the past season, the 25-year-old primarily played for the Spurs, participating in 42 games and averaging 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11.3 minutes per game before his release in early March. He had spent his initial three NBA seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Although Roby’s multiyear contract for 2023/24 was non-guaranteed, he stayed in the Knicks’ training camp, competing for a spot on the 15-man regular season roster.
However, New York’s decision to waive him last Wednesday indicated that he wouldn’t secure one of those positions.
Yet, re-signing him on an Exhibit 10 deal suggests the team’s intention to retain him within their system.
Roby is eligible to be designated an affiliate player for the Westchester Knicks in the G League.
Had Roby been owed more than $75,000 in guaranteed money at the time of his release by the Knicks, he would have been disqualified from playing for Westchester. However, his salary was entirely non-guaranteed.
He is expected to be waived once again later today, positioning him to join New York’s G League team, where he stands to receive a $75,000 Exhibit 10 bonus if he remains with the team for at least 60 days.
