Jazz to Sign Veteran Guard Patty Mills to One-Year Deal

The Utah Jazz and veteran guard Patty Mills have agreed to a one-year, $3.3 million contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This deal, which is at the veteran minimum, will be fully guaranteed.

Mills will have the chance to reunite with Jazz coach Will Hardy, as the two previously worked together with the San Antonio Spurs when Hardy was an assistant under Gregg Popovich.

Last season, Mills played for the Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat. In 13 games with Miami, he averaged 5.6 points in 16.4 minutes per game.

Now 36 years old, Mills will be entering his 16th NBA season this fall. The 2009 second-round draft pick has played in 892 regular season games across five different teams.

This summer, Mills once again shone for the Australian national team at the 2024 Olympics. In four games, he averaged 16.5 points while shooting 41% from three on 5.5 attempts per game.

Unfortunately, the Boomers were eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 95-90 overtime loss to Serbia. Mills is expected to retire from international play and focus on club basketball for the remainder of his career as per sources.

The Jazz currently have 14 players on guaranteed contracts and three on two-way deals. Once Mills’ deal becomes official, he’ll be the 15th player on a guaranteed contract as the club finalizes its roster for next season.
