The Utah Jazz are reportedly considering picking Bronny James with the 32nd overall selection in the upcoming NBA draft, as per Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports.
Peek wrote, “The Jazz have expressed interest in bringing Bronny in for an individual workout and could be interested in him with the 32nd pick” She added, “Theo franchise has been patiently rebuilding behind the leadership of Danny Ainge, and bringing in Bronny with the hopes of luring a superstar like LeBron could be the jump owner Ryan Smith is looking for to add a spark to the Jazz”
LeBron James holds a player option for the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, which he can opt out of to become a free agent. In theory, James could join the same team that selects Bronny, allowing them to play together on the same franchise.
However, recent reports suggest that Bronny’s priority is establishing himself in the league independently, as he’s expressed a desire to focus on his own career rather than immediately playing alongside his father.
In April, Ainge, the team’s CEO, told reporters that Utah would be actively pursuing top-tier talent, and trying to attract LeBron would definitely fit that description. However, it’s reasonable to question how feasible this pursuit would actually be.
It’s widely known that the Utah Jazz don’t have the same allure as some of the NBA’s larger or more glamorous markets, which makes luring free agents or players seeking trades challenging.
If LeBron were to opt out of his contract or request a trade from L.A., he’d immediately become the most sought-after name on the market, despite entering his 40s next season. It’s understandable why Utah would be interested.
