The Miami Heat have decided to withdraw their two-way qualifying offers to Cole Swider and Alondes Williams, making both players unrestricted free agents rather than restricted, according to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson
Swider and Williams ended the 2023/24 season on two-way contracts with Miami and had been offered qualifying offers for one-year two-way deals.
However, with all three of the Heat’s two-way slots currently occupied by Keshad Johnson, Zyon Pullin, and Dru Smith, the team cannot sign another player to a standard contract without exceeding the second tax apron, Barry Jackson, adds.
Both Swider and Williams are participating in Miami’s summer league. There’s a chance that one or both players could re-sign with Heat on two-way contracts if the club decides to adjust its current roster spots.
Swider and Williams, undrafted in 2022 from Syracuse and Wake Forest respectively, did not have a significant impact in the NBA during the ’23/24 season, playing a combined total of just 103 minutes.
As the Heat approach the next season with all their two-way slots filled and 14 players on standard contracts, they are expected to make further roster moves before the 2024/25 season begins.
