Drew Gordon, a former NBA forward and the brother of Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon, tragically passed away today in a car crash in Portland, Oregon.
This sad news was first reported by Marc J Spears of Andscape. Drew, originally from San Jose, had played basketball at UCLA and New Mexico. He was just 33 years old.
Gordon, who is Aaron’s elder brother, appeared in nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014-15 season. Following his last season at New Mexico in 2012, he continued to play professionally both in the United States and abroad.
Gordon was a standout in high school, receiving scholarship offers from prestigious schools like Duke, Kentucky, and others before ultimately choosing to play for UCLA. During his freshman year, he managed an average of 3.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
In his sophomore season, after playing just six games, Gordon transferred to New Mexico. There, he significantly improved, averaging 13 points and 10.5 rebounds per game as a junior. In his final season with the Lobos, he further elevated his performance, averaging 13.7 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.
The former First-Team Mountain West honoree decided to retire from basketball in July 2023.
