Former Boston Celtics Power Forward Brandon Hunter Has Passed Away at Age 42

Former NBA player Brandon Hunter, who had a notable career in both the NBA and international leagues, has tragically passed away at the age of 42, as confirmed by Ohio men’s basketball coach Jeff Boals on Tuesday, September 12.

Hunter’s sudden demise has left the basketball community mourning the loss of a talented athlete and coach.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Brandon Hunter began his basketball journey as a standout high school player.

He later achieved prominence as a star forward for the Ohio University Bobcats, earning three first-team All-MAC conference selections and leading the NCAA in rebounding during his senior season.

In 2003, Hunter’s talents were recognized when he was selected as the 56th overall pick by the Boston Celtics in the NBA Draft. During his rookie season, he averaged 3.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists across 36 games for the Celtics.

Over the course of two seasons in the NBA, Hunter played a total of 67 games for the Boston Celtics and the Orlando Magic, showcasing his skills and contributing to various teams, including a career-high 17 points against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2004.

Following his NBA career, Brandon Hunter continued his basketball journey overseas, playing for numerous international clubs from 2006 to 2013.

His passion for the sport led him to explore opportunities in coaching, real estate, and sports management after retiring as a player.

The news of Hunter’s passing has left  the basketball world in shock and sorrow. Ohio men’s basketball coach Jeff Boals paid tribute to him on Instagram, expressing his grief at the loss of a “Bobcat Great” and emphasizing that Hunter was taken from us far too soon.

Former NBA point guard T.J. Ford also shared his condolences on social media, revealing that he had spoken to Hunter just last week, highlighting the unfortunate loss of friends he has experienced recently.
