According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Troy Weaver, the general manager of the Detroit Pistons, will stay in his position as the team starts looking for a new head of basketball operations.
This means Weaver won’t be fired as initially thought, but he’ll likely have a lower role, reporting to the new president of basketball operations.
Reports suggest that the Pistons might bring in additional executives who are either below Weaver or at the same level to strengthen the front office.
If Weaver and the Pistons don’t agree with the ownership’s plan to change the front office, they could part ways, but that doesn’t seem to be the plan for now.
Since Weaver took over in 2020, it’s been a tough four years for the Pistons, with the team struggling to win games. They haven’t won more than 23 games in a season and have a dismal overall record.
There was some optimism heading into the 2023/24 season with the young core players, but the team ended up finishing last in the league with a record number of consecutive losses.
Although there’s no clear information on potential candidates for the president of basketball operations role, there’s speculation that the Pistons might consider pursuing Horst from Milwaukee
