The Los Angeles Clippers are considering bringing Jeff Van Gundy on board as a senior consultant for head coach Tyronn Lue’s team next season.
According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Clippers are strongly interested in Van Gundy and have a good chance of securing his services once the NBA Finals conclude.
“League sources tell The Stein Line that the LA Clippers have strong interest in hiring Celtics special adviser Jeff Van Gundy as a high-profile addition to Tyronn Lue’s coaching staff for next season and a strong chance at succeeding in that pursuit after the NBA Finals are complete,” writes Stein.
“Growing belief in league coaching circles that the Clippers’ job is the post most likely to pull Van Gundy, 62, back to the full-time coaching ranks”
Van Gundy, who has over a decade of experience as an NBA head coach with the New York Knicks (1995-2001) and the Houston Rockets (2003-2007), shifted to a broadcasting role with ESPN before joining the Celtics in October 2023 as a senior consultant for basketball operations.
In this role, he has been actively involved in practices, home games, road trips, and has also dedicated time to the Maine Celtics of the G-League.
This season, the Clippers made it to the NBA playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by the Dallas Mavericks. They are now planning significant roster changes in hopes of making a stronger championship run next season.
