Christian Wood Exercises His Player Option with Lakers for 2024/25 Season

Los Angeles Lakers big man, Christian Wood, has decided to stay with the team for the 2024/25 season by exercising his player option, reports Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. This means he will be paid $3,036,040 for the season, and he won’t become a free agent until 2025.

Last summer, despite putting up solid numbers for the Dallas Mavericks, Wood struggled to find a new team and eventually signed a two-year contract with the Lakers.

However, his performance with the Lakers was not as impressive, with lower points and rebounds per game compared to his career averages. He also suffered a knee injury in February, which required surgery in March and ended his season early.

Although he was cleared to play in the playoffs, the Lakers chose not to use him due to his long recovery period. Given his difficulties in free agency last year and his injury-plagued season, it’s not surprising that Wood chose to stick with his current contract. However, there’s still a possibility he could be traded during the offseason.
