Breaking : Hornets Waive Kai Jones

The Charlotte Hornets, as reported by @ShamsCharania of the Athletic, have chosen to waive Kai Jones, a former first-round draft pick.

This move comes as no shock, considering that Kai Jones had previously expressed his desire for a trade from the Charlotte Hornets.

The Hornets had previously announced that Kai Jones had been indefinitely excluded from the team, and the prospect of his return appeared bleak.

This decision was primarily rooted in Kai Jones’ recent conduct on social media, which the team perceived as unprofessional though they failed to utter a word on that.

Over the span of two seasons, from 2021 to 2023, Jones participated in 67 games as a Charlotte Hornet, with an average performance of 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Charlotte secured Jones, the 19th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, through a trade with the New York Knicks on the draft night.

By waiving him, Charlotte will face a cap impact of $3,047,880 for this season, as Kai Jones had a non-guaranteed (team option) salary set for the 2024-25 season. Consequently, the Hornets’ roster now comprises 20 players.
