The Atlanta Hawks recently traded Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans and are expected to move Trae Young as part of their rebuilding process before the 2024-25 season begins.
Several rival teams are expected to be interested in acquiring the point guard, with the Miami Heat emerging as the frontrunners, according to Bookies.com.
– Miami Heat: +350 (22.2%)
– Orlando Magic: +400 (20.0%)
– San Antonio Spurs: +450 (18.2%)

– Minnesota Timberwolves: +750 (11.8%)
– Atlanta Hawks: +800 (11.1%)
According to Johnathan Adams of Heavy.com, Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes proposes a potential trade scenario where the Miami Heat would acquire Trae Young in exchange for Tyler Herro.
The proposed trade :
Miami Heat Acquire: Trae Young
Atlanta Hawks Acquire: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Nikola Jovic, first round picks ( 2029, 2031)
“You give up Tyler Herro, who I think goes in any star deal,” detailed Hughes in a June 29, 2024, live stream discussing potential NBA trades. “He’s just the piece waiting to be moved. You give up Duncan who makes the money work, as well as give the Hawks a shooter they could potentially flip again. Jovic [is] a young player and then two very interesting first-round picks with Jimmy Butler’s future up in the air.” Adam wrote.
While Young’s ball-dominant, defense-averse style might pose challenges within Miami’s demanding culture, some believe that Miami’s environment could help him elevate his game to the next level.
Known as a cornerstone player since arriving in Atlanta, Young could benefit from an organization that prioritizes selflessness, attention to detail, and grit.
“Miami has struggled offensively during the Butler-Adebayo era. Young, as a dominant playmaker, could significantly boost the team’s offensive capabilities on his own,” noted Hughes.
The Hawks may favor a trade package that includes multiple future first-round picks, potentially including Miami’s 2031 selection, as proposed by Hughes.
Young, a three-time All-Star with career averages of 25.5 points, 9.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1 steal per game, presents a potent offensive threat with a career 3-point shooting percentage of 43.6%.
In contrast, Tyler Herro has averaged 18.1 points per game with a reputation as a dangerous, albeit inconsistent, shooter, while Duncan Robinson signed a lucrative contract with Miami in 2021 that has yet to fully pay off.
