The Miami Heat have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with free agent guard Alec Burks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Burks, 32, is a 13-year NBA veteran who has played for seven different teams since entering the league in 2011. Last season, he played for both the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks.
During his time with Detroit, he had a solid performance, averaging 12.6 points per game and shooting 40.1% from three-point range.
However, after being traded to the Knicks, his performance dipped, averaging only 6.5 points per game and making just 30.1% of his three-point attempts in his last 23 regular season games.
Despite these struggles, Burks has a solid reputation as a scorer and shooter, boasting a career three-point shooting percentage of 38.3%.
He finished the season strong, earning a spot in the Knicks’ rotation during the Eastern Conference semifinals.
In New York’s last five playoff games against the Pacers, he averaged 17.8 points per game on 51.0% shooting from the field, 42.9% from three, and 84.4% from the free-throw line.
Burks will be the second player the Heat have signed today, following the re-signing of Thomas Bryant to a one-year deal earlier.
