On the “Wine and Gold Talk” podcast, Cavs insider, Chris Fedor, reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers have shown interest in bolstering their frontcourt depth.
One player they considered is Brazil’s Bruno Caboclo. Additionally, according to ClutchPoints’ Evan Dammarell, the Cavs might also be eyeing France’s Guerschon Yabusele.
“I had a source tell me that the Cavs were taking a look, not that they were going to sign him, but they were taking a look at Bruno Caboclo while he was playing for the Brazil National Team,” Fedor said on the podcast.
Caboclo, a 6’9″ forward, played impressively for Brazil during the Paris Olympics, sparking discussions about his potential return to the NBA after leaving in the 2022 offseason.
Over the past few years, Caboclo has played in Brazil, the G League, Germany, and Serbia. Last season, while playing for Partizan, he averaged 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and shot 64% from the field, including 35-of-71 on three-pointers.
Fedor also noted that the Cavaliers might have an interest in Yabusele, who is also seeking an NBA return. However, Fedor expressed skepticism about Yabusele fitting into the Cavs’ current roster.
Yabusele, a former Boston Celtic, was one of the standout players on France’s Olympic team. The Athletic’s Jared Weiss reported that the Celtics are unlikely to pursue him, making him available to other rival teams.
Yabusele, who has a $2.5 million buyout clause with Real Madrid, was the 16th overall pick in the 2016 draft and played two seasons with Boston.
Despite Fedor’s doubts about Yabusele’s fit, ClutchPoints’ Dammarell suggests that Yabusele could be a valuable sixth man for Cleveland due to his connection with French assistant coach Kenny Atkinson, who is expected to lead the Cavs next season.
Dammarell reported, “A team that could be a serious option for Yabusele is the Cavaliers, who just named Atkinson as the team’s next head coach… The French connection between Atkinson, the Cavs, and Yabusele could be worth exploring, especially with how Yabusele answers a clear need on Cleveland’s roster.”
