Timberwolves Trade Kyle Anderson to Warriors for 2nd-Round Pick Swap, Cash

Free agent forward Kyle Anderson is joining the Warriors through a sign-and-trade deal with the Timberwolves, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Anderson will sign a three-year, $27 million contract. In exchange, Golden State is sending Minnesota a future second-round pick swap and cash. The deal includes a non-guaranteed third season, Michael A Scotto of HoopsHype adds.

Anderson will use the $16 million traded player exception created by the Klay Thompson three-team deal with Dallas and Charlotte. This move leaves the Warriors $3.2 million below the $170.8 million luxury tax threshold, with 13 players on their roster.

Known as a solid role player, Anderson was expected to be difficult for Minnesota to retain due to their salary cap issues. Being a second apron team severely limits the T’Wolves’ financial flexibility.

Anderson will immediately join the Warriors’ rotation after being regarded as one of the top free agents this off-season. He played in 79 regular season games last season, starting in 10, and averaged 6.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game.

The Timberwolves reached the Western Conference finals alongside Kyle, while the Warriors did not make it this year.
