Restricted free agent Max Christie plans to sign a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal, valued at approximately $32 million, includes a player option, likely in the final year.
As a rookie, Christie played in 41 games and spent much of last season as a key part of the rotation. Over 67 regular-season games, he averaged 4.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.9 assists, starting in seven of those games.
Notably, Christie has connected on 37.8% of his three-point attempts, totaling 180 tries over his two seasons. Christie joined the NBA after a single season at Michigan State and, at just 21 years old, stands 6’5” at the shooting guard position.
With new head coach J.J. Redick at the helm, Christie might see an expanded role, though he faces competition for playing time, including from first-round pick Dalton Knecht, behind Austin Reaves.
Over the weekend, the Lakers extended a $2.3 million qualifying offer to Christie, making him a restricted free agent.
