The Oklahoma City Thunder are trading Lindy Waters III to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the No. 52 pick, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
This season, Waters averaged 3.6 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game. The trade provides the Warriors with a versatile shooting guard/small forward, while the Thunder acquire a draft pick to continue building their roster.
OKC holds a $2.2 million non-guaranteed team option on Waters, which must be exercised before the trade can be finalized. Warriors views Waters as a potential rotation player and plans to guarantee his salary, keeping him on the roster, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
The 26-year-old shooting guard spent the past three years with OKC, primarily on two-way contracts before signing a standard deal in February. This season, he played in 38 games, averaging 3.6 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game.
The Thunder have no other second-round picks and may be looking to trade up further, as suggested by Yahoo Sports Jake Fischer. OKC traded into the late first round on Wednesday night, acquiring the 26th pick from New York to draft Dillon Jones.
The team needs a replacement for two-way big man Olivier Sarr, who is expected to miss the entire next season due to an Achilles injury sustained in the G League Finals against Maine Celtics.
