On Wednesday morning, the Detroit Pistons parted ways with Monty Williams, and James Borrego has emerged as a contender for their head coaching job, according to Vince Goodwill of Yahoo Sports.
Borrego has also been considered for similar roles with the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers during this hiring period.
Currently, Borrego serves as the top assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans and previously held the position of head coach with the Charlotte Hornets.
This season, he worked as the lead assistant in New Orleans, where he crossed paths with the Pistons’ new president, Trajan Langdon.
Although Borrego is a strong candidate for the Cavaliers’ head coaching position, which could be decided as soon as today, he remains a significant option for the Pistons, as noted by Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
