The Boston Celtics clinched the 2024 NBA Finals on Monday by defeating the Mavericks in a five-game series, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. He reported that a key Celtics player is set to receive the largest contract in NBA history.
Boston plans to offer Tatum a five-year, $315 million supermax extension, surpassing the contract signed by teammate Jaylen Brown last year.
Additionally, the Celtics intend to negotiate a contract extension with Derrick White. As of now, all of Boston’s top eight rotation players are locked in under contract through the 2024-25 season.
In this years’ NBA playoffs, Jayson Tatum played a crucial role in guiding the Boston Celtics to their first championship during his tenure. Across 19 games, he maintained averages of 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.
His shooting was notable with a field goal percentage of 42.7%, a three-point shooting rate of 28.3%, and an impressive free-throw accuracy of 86.1%. Tatum also contributed defensively with 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game while logging an average of 40.4 minutes on the court per game.
