The Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to extend head coach Tyronn Lue’s contract , according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Lue’s contract with the Clippers is reportedly a five-year deal worth nearly $70 million, as per Shams Charania of the Athletic.
Securing Lue’s extension was a top priority for the Clippers as they enter a crucial offseason. Despite facing numerous challenges, including injuries to key players, Lue has compiled an impressive 184-134 regular season record during his tenure with the team. Notably, he boasts a 97-47 record in games where both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have played.
While the Clippers have struggled in the playoffs recently, Lue has retained the support of team ownership and management. His extension also eliminates him as a potential candidate for the cross-town Lakers, who are currently searching for a new head coach.
With Lue’s contract settled, the Clippers can now focus on upcoming free agency decisions, including the futures of George, Westbrook, and Harden.
