5:20 PM : Ronald Acuña Jr. said his current injury feels similar to the minor ACL sprain he had in 2018, but not like the ACL tear he suffered in Miami in 2021. He mentioned that he felt a pop back then, but not this time. According to David O’Brien of The Athletic, Acuña will be placed on the 10-day IL and expects to miss about a month, similar to his recovery time in 2018.
4:11 PM : Braves’ won tonight’s game against the Pirates but OF Ronald Acuña Jr. left mid game due to soreness in his left knee, the team reported.
Dr. Jesse Morse indicated that Acuña sustained a non-contact injury to his left knee. In 2021, Acuña tore his right ACL and earlier this year, he injured his meniscus.
Acuña began the game with a double but injured himself while leading off from second base. As Pirates pitcher Martín Pérez awaited the ball from catcher Joey Bart, the reigning National League MVP made a motion toward third base, quickly reversed, and then fell to the ground in apparent pain, screaming.
Grabbing his left knee, Acuña was assessed by the Braves’ medical team. He managed to limp off the field without assistance, although he had to pause momentarily near first base.
In 2021, Acuña tore his right anterior cruciate ligament. His only prior left knee injury happened in 2018 when he hyperextended it attempting to beat out an infield hit at Fenway Park, causing him to miss a month of play.
Following Acuña’s departure, Adam Duvall shifted from left field to right, and Jarred Kelenic took over in left field.
