The Phoenix Suns’ somewhat underwhelming performance in the first round, though not entirely disheartening considering the Timberwolves’ dominance over the defending champions, Denver Nuggets, in the second round of the playoffs, has sparked speculation about the potential breakup of their superstar trio, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
Some suggest that restructuring the roster might be necessary for better balance, with both Durant and Booker rumored to be linked to the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs.
According to Brian Windhorst on The Rich Eisen Show, there is indeed chatter within the league about this possibility.
He remarked, “Do people in the league say that? Yes, they do. I talk to multiple people who think that’s what they’re going to have to do.” However, he noted that the Suns themselves have not expressed such intentions. “Do the Suns say that? No, they do not. I think the Suns’ intention is to keep all three of these star players,” Windhorst added. “Tweak the roster, tweak some of their systems and processes and try to be better next year.”
Windhorst also highlighted Durant’s remarks on the potential benefits of continuity for the Suns. Meanwhile, the future of Frank Vogel as head coach remains undecided, although reports suggest that the Suns are contemplating retaining him for the next season, as Insider Marc Stein revealed.
“I have heard that one option that the Suns have considered is, just completely redo the staff around him,” Stein disclosed.
