Clippers’ star Kawhi Leonard has been sidelined since March 31 due to ongoing discomfort in his knee, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming playoffs.
Speaking to the press following Clippers loss to the Utah Jazz, Coach Tyronn Lue said Kawhi will “hopefully” be ready for Game 1 of the first round. “That’s what we want to see,” Lue added.
However, reports from within the Clippers organization suggest Leonard’s knee is experiencing significant swelling, causing concern among team insiders.
“Kawhi Leonard reportedly has ‘a lot of swelling’ in his knee. “I was in contact with someone in the know, and they said they are concerned.” per Chris Broussard of FoxSports.
While Leonard’s absence initially raised little alarm, it has now extended to nearly two weeks, causing anxiety among team insiders and fans in Los Angeles.
Despite playing 68 games this season, the most in several years, Leonard’s history of knee injuries, including a torn ACL and meniscus, continues to haunt him, particularly in his right knee.
Before his injury setback, Leonard was enjoying a stellar season, posting impressive statistics and nearing membership in the esteemed 50/40/90 club.
However, his availability for the playoffs against Kyrie and Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks remains uncertain, potentially impacting the Clippers’ postseason prospects.
